Cape Cod is home to the Cape Cod Rail Trail, a twenty-eight mile network of exclusive paved Class I bike trails. The trail is a paved ten foot wide path which allows no access to motorized vehicles. The CCRT passes by many pristine ponds and lakes suitable for swimming and picnicking. The trail is patrolled by Rangers from Nickerson State Park and local police on bike patrol. The Trail is well signed and maps are generally available, providing accurate descriptions of the Cape's Trails.

There are many other bike trails on Cape Cod which help to create a bicycle friendly environment. Notable among these are the Cape Cod Canal Trail managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, the Shining Sea Trail in Falmouth and several trails within the Cape Cod National Seashore in Eastham to Coast Guard Beach, Province Lands Trail in the Dunes of Provincetown and Head of the Meadow in Truro. The CCRT follows the old Rail Road right-of-way, which was used in the mid-1800's through 1960 to bring passengers and freight service to all of the Cape.

Most of the local and park beaches provide bike racks for security. All Idle Times locations provide bike locks at no charge with every rental bike. Complimentary trail maps are provided free of charge at all our locations.

Eastham is the home of Idle Times Bike Shop Inc. Eastham is considered to be the Gateway to the Cape Cod National Seashore. The park was founded, in part, to protect the environmental resources that make the Cape the special place that we love. The spectacular beaches, dunes, light houses, walking and cycling trails, museums and other visitors' services will provide you and your family with memories to last a lifetime and hopefully pass on to their children's families. These are just a few examples of the sights within the community and the park.
